BJ's Beauty & Barber Colleges are located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. The Tacoma location is located in the historical South Tacoma area. The Puyallup location is located in the hub of South Hill in Puyallup. Rooms are spacious and well lighted to provide students with an ideal environment for learning. The styling floors include intermediate, junior and senior stations, shampoo bowls, hair dryers, and manicuring tables. Also provided are private classrooms and facial rooms with a separate student break room. Class sizes average up to 15 students. BJ’s continually upgrades supplies and equipment to insure the students have the best possible training.

About the Owner: Being one of eight children, (and a military brat) we got a lot of practice on each other's hair. In 1971, I made a career change from teaching 4th graders to going to Beauty School. My family thought I was crazy; however, it has been a wonderful occupation change for me. Education was always my dream and in 1976 I received my credentials to instruct Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, and Nails. I attend Church for All Nations in Parkland and have been a member since 1990. In 1995 I was part founder and currently director of Westside Community Bank located in University Place, Parkland and downtown Puyallup.

Our training facilities, with the highest credential, have been in operation since 1980. It is with great enthusiasm I welcome you to come to an orientation to see how our programs can help you achieve your goals of becoming a licensed hairstylist. Courses: Barbering TOTAL COST OF BARBER PROGRAM: $8,250 IF YOU QUALIFY FOR A PELL GRANT IT COULD COVER UP TO $4,731 PLUS A LOW INTEREST RATE FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN COULD COVER UP TO $7,500. THE COST OF FUNDING CAN OUT WEIGH THE COST OF ATTENDANCE WHICH MEANS YOU WILL HAVE FUNDS TO COVER SOME PERSONAL LIVING EXPENSES WHILE ATTENDING COLLEGE. Cosmetology TOTAL COST OF COSMETOLOGY PROGRAM: $10,500 IF YOU QUALIFY FOR A PELL GRANT IT COULD COVER UP TO $4,731 PLUS A FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN COULD COVER $7,500 FOR YOUR FIRST 900 HOURS. YOUR SECOND 900 HOURS COULD MAX OUT AT $4,300 IN PELL GRANT FUNDS PLUS $8,500 IN FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN FUNDS. THE COST OF FUNDING CAN OUT WEIGH THE COST OF ATTENDANCE WHICH MEANS YOU WILL HAVE FUNDS TO COVER SOME PERSONAL LIVING EXPENSES WHILE ATTENDING COLLEGE. Teaching Training TOTAL COST OF TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM: $6,500. IF YOU QUALIFY FOR A PELL GRANT IT COULD COVER UP TO $3,122 AND A LOW INTEREST RATE FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN COULD COVER UP TO $2,399 IN A SUB LOAN AND $2,666 IN AN UNSUB LOAN. THE COST OF FUNDING CAN OUT WEIGH THE COST OF ATTENDANCE WHICH MEANS YOU WILL HAVE FUNDS TO COVER SOME PERSONAL LIVING EXPENSES WHILE ATTENDING COLLEGE. Esthetics Nails *If you qualify, is a PELL grant that could pay up to $4,310 for 900 hours you are in training. Cosmetologist could qualify for $8,620 in free PELL grant funds. Federal Student Loans are available for those who qualify up to $16,000. Veterans may use their benefits here also!

BJ’s Beauty & Barber Colleges were established in l980 as Redken SES Schools.
Associations: 
Some of the events BJ's participates in to give back to the community that has so graciously supported us are: 1. Special Olympics. Every year we close both campuses and go out to Fort Lewis to do the athletes hair - getting them prepared for their big victory dance. Hundreds of athletes show up to get their hair cut, styled, make-up applied and nails polished. The students learn that giving back is important for success. 2. The Rainbow festival is another event we participate in. 3. The Puyallup Fair where we set up a booth and cut hair from open to close, 17 days straight to service the fair goers and the employees of the fair. We have a free tuition drawing for one lucky person for our cosmetology program. 4. Sister Cities International - We are involved with the Tacoma/George, South Africa sister cities organization. We have raised thousands of dollars to help children with AIDS and we help support their battered women's shelter. 5. BJ's Beauty & Barber College, in historic South Tacoma, offers complimentary haircuts to the unemployed every Wednesday afternoon.
